The Bible – self explanatory
The Three Battlegrounds by Frances Frangipane: an in-depth view of the three arenas of spirtual warfar: the mind, the church and the heavenly places.
The Power of a Praying Wife by Stormie Omartian: great insight on how to pray for your spouse. Check out her other books “The Power of a Praying Parent” and “The Power of Prayer to Change Your Marriage”.
Lies Women Believe and the Truth That Sets Them Free by Nancy Leigh DeMoss: highly recommended by a fellow Christian friend, “It is a great book for all women to read!!!“
Little Pieces of Light – Darkness and Personal Growth by Joyce Rupp, O.S.M.: hope filled book offering courage and solace. This book was imperative in my divorce. A guide to understanding as well as healing. If you read no other, read this one.
Fool-Proofing Your Life by Jan Silvious: a great book on how to deal with the impossible (foolish) people in your life in a biblical way. A major study on relationships from Proverbs. Great for co-dependency, enablers and those who just want to get a biblical stance on how to effectively deal with difficult people.
AUTHORS/SPEAKERS/COMEDIANS
Joyce Meyer – a well rounded and highly educated author/speaker who is highly effective in practical bible teaching. She has penned 80 books and conducts about 15 conferences a year. Check out www.joycemeyer.org or YouTube “Joyce Meyer“.
Chonda Pierce – now this is an excellent author, comedian and television hostess from the South. Check her out at http://www.chonda.org/. If you need to laugh look her up on YouTube. She’s got tons of short clips, but to really get a taste of her, buy one of her DVDs. I’ve purchased a couple – some have a prayer at the end and some don’t but if you get one that does, you won’t regret it. She pulls you in by relating to you; makes you laugh, makes you cry…ex-cell-ent.
Max Lucado – this name is pretty common in the Christian community. He is a well established author and also a minister. Check out his site at http://www.maxlucado.com/. Some of his books include “Fear”, “In Grip of Grace”, “When God Whispers Your Name”.
Creflo Dollar – this is a great speaker and best selling author. He is a former educational therapist and holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in counseling as well as a Doctor of Divinity degree from Oral Roberts University. He is a highly motivated and encouraging speaker. T.D. Jakes – Jakes is a charismatic speaker and preacher whose sermons are broadcast nationally and internationally. He is also a prolific author and has written over 30 books, many of which have been featured on the New York Times best-selling list. Jakes is also a songwriter, a playwright, and performer. He founded a Christian record label (Dexterity Sounds) as well as a theater and movie production company. Jakes’ church, The Potter’s House, is active in ministry and outreach both locally and internationally. The Potter’s House sends drugs and alcohol counselling to the inner city, volunteers to the elderly, to prostitutes and victims of domestic abuse. Jakes has received numerous honors, including 13 honorary degrees and doctorates. He has also received Grammy and Dove Award nominations for Gospel album “Live at The Potter’s House.” PBS Religion and Ethics Newsweekly named Jakes among America’s “Top 10 Religious Leaders.” Time magazine featured Jakes on the cover of its September 17, 2001 issue with the provocative question: “Is This Man the Next Billy Graham?”. http://tdje.com/
